asian art finds

Art and accessories with character and style are as exciting and important to a room as terrific textiles. These pieces tell stories or add spirit and personality to a room. They give insight to who you are or where you have been. The same day I happened across the textiles found in “taken with textiles”, I found these great Asian pieces shown below. Displaying this assortment is a gal who is third generation antiques dealer. Her display cabinet caught my eye- there []

jack of all trades-oakland

What a fun experience this show was for me. I headed out in the rain this past Saturday to attend my first Jack of all Trades Market in Oakland. I arrived in the Jack London Square area, easily finding a parking space, quick chat with a friendly parking attendant, and headed out into the downpour wearing my cozy boots and ridiculously pink umbrella. Puddle hopping toward a building I hoped housed the event, I met a woman named Carolyn, who was also braving []

taken with textiles

Every time I wanted to give up, if I saw an interesting textile, print what ever, suddenly I would see a collection. ~Anna Sui This week I planned on popping into a local consignment store. It was closed. Should I just head home? Hmm. Instead, I circled back around to an antique dealer I’d not visited in quite some time. I wandered the shop, starting on the first floor. Winding my way through booths. Eventually, in a back corner of the upstairs []

jack of all trades market

This weekend I’m making my first visit to Oakland’s Jack of All Trades Market in Jack London Square. My goal is to find great pieces and artists or vendors to feature here. I am anticipating furniture, accessories, lighting, art, textiles, jewelry and more. We FINALLY have rain in the Bay Area which is fantastic news, but I was afraid that meant a rained out event. Luckily they are moving the event inside. Woohoo! Hopefully there will be some fun finds and neat vendors []

oh wow!

I got an email from Pinterest that one of my most favorite new online finds just started following magpieweekend on pinterest! I had to go directly to Pinterest to be sure. I could not believe it. Magpeweekend is so new. Just a hatchling. BEYOND exciting! Oh its the little things. Who?! THIS is who! I dream of visiting the actual showroom. INCREDIBLE finds. Gorgeous. Beautiful. I’m so excited. If you are in the LA or Southern CA area check it out for []

target run

I don’t hit up Target much these days but I needed some thing(s) I *knew* they would have & could grab it all in one stop. (yay!) While this blog generally won’t be about big box retailers, some things will be sprinkled in. I’m all about an eclectic mix. So, bar carts are so big right now. They grow in popularity around the holidays while folks are entertaining, though these versatile pieces can be used in so many ways when not needed []

to love beauty is to see light- victor hugo

Last night we attended a fun office party at the Butterfly Restaurant in San Francisco. This place is located on the water not far from the Ferry Building. The restaurant designer used these incredible sea urchin light fixtures with red lights in the centers. AMAZING. They caught my eye, and thus, here they are. If you have a chance to stop in, go for it. The passed horderves we had were delightful and generous too. I can only hope the normal fare []

starting the blog

I started this blog to give myself (more of) a reason to get out there and see what stores and shops are in and around the Bay Area. We have only lived here two years and there is so little I’ve discovered yet! I truly love seeing antiques, vintage, and architectural salvage. Textiles new and old. Things that glitter and shine as well as ones that are rusted out or chipping. My appreciation for old things started at a young age. All []
